Young Chef's Academy Field Trip

Today Elena's class went on a field trip to Young Chef's Academy in Mandeville. They were going to make pizza and king cakes. Elena didn't really want to go, she wanted to go to the zoo instead. But she did go, and she thoroughly enjoyed herself. They paired off into boys and girls. Then each group mixed pizza dough and then waited for it to rise. While they were waiting, they started making their king cakes. Each student made their own personal sized king cake. An then covered it with pink and orange sprinkles. While the king cakes were baking in the oven, the teacher read them a story about a pizza party. When that story was finished, they checked on their pizza dough. It had fully risen so the teacher divided it into personal pizza sizes for all of the kids. The kids then had to knead and fold their own dough until they had their pizzas just right. Then they topped them with sauce, cheese and pepperoni. Pizzas in the oven next. Now the king cakes were finished. They were each given their own king cake back to decorate. They iced them and sprinkled them and then ate them while the pizzas were baking in the oven. Soon enough, the pizzas were out and ready to be consumed as well.
This was a great field trip. The kids had a ball. They really enjoyed getting hands on with the dough and the king cakes.
